Welcome

This short guide is designed for visitors (customers not affiliated to University of Helsinki) to help orientating in the Kaisa House (Main Library).   For further and detailed information on library services see Helsinki University Library webpages.

Tips for your library visit

In advance

  • Apply for the Helka library card in advance by filling an e-form (see instruction below)

Take with you (if you wish to to use the e-resources)

  • your mobile device (laptop, tablet, smart phone)
  • your official ID card to get a temporary account to Helsinki University wireless network

Check Kaisa House / Main Library's opening hours (Note! Pick up of  Helka cards only during customer service opening hours)

Services in a nutshell

Library card

To borrow books from the library you need a Helsinki University Library Helka card.  You have to apply for a Helka card in advance. The card will be available for pick-up in the Helsinki University Library location you choose.  You can get a library card from the library customer service by presenting an official ID card.

Study in the library

Use a computer

  • Own laptop / mobile device. The library has the wireless HelsinkiUni Guest network of the University of Helsinki (as well as the Eduroam network). HelsinkiUni Guest offers incidental visitors a relatively easy way to use online resources. A separate username is no longer needed; visitors can join by using the general password uniguest.
  • Library terminals. The electronic resources are available to all users within the library premises also via library terminals (on all floors in Kaisa House).
