Reading and downloading an e-book

Dawson Books Ltd went into Administration during June 2020 and therefore e-books by Dawsonera are not available in beginning of August.

Dawsonera e-books will be transferred to other service provider. More information will be provided during week 32.

Please don't use Shibboleth or athens login. If you want to print or make reservation, you have to create a Dawsonera account. You can create an account by clicking "Sign in" and then "Create account" in Dawsonera home page.

From Dawsonera, you can download

  •  An entire book  for 1-7 day loan period.

How to download a book onto your computer (PC)

  • In Helka click the word "Online resource".
  • Accept terms and conditions.
  • Click "Download ebook".
  • Choose loan period (1-7 days).
  • Select reader (PC- > use Adobe Digital Editions and mobile device -> use Aldiko-reader).
  • Click ”Download” and wait until downloading is completed.
  • After completed download you can save the book into your computer.
  • Please note that you can't use downloaded books without network connection.

Please, note:

  • Publisher Pearson have altered the digital rights of their ebooks. As a result, Pearson content will no longer be available to download from Dawsonera.
  • This will be clearly indicated to users when accessing Pearson ebooks from Dawsonera. The text  ”Downloads are currently disabled””, indicates that you may only use online version.
  • Dawsonera doesn't operate with older ADE versions. Only 4.5 or later is valid.

Online reading

  • You can read the book in PDF-mode - you'll need an Adobe Digital Editions. ADE is free of charge.
  • There is unlimited multi-user access to the books.

More information

  • Provides a growing number of eBooks – mostly textbooks to the students and the staff of UH.

    These titles can also be accessed through Helka-datebase and browsed online as well as printed and copied (up to 5% of each book per user per year) or downloaded.

Downloading onto a mobile device

From Dawsonera, you can download to your mobile device

  • An entire book  for 1-7 day loan period.

Reading and downloading onto your mobile device you need

  • Aldiko. Aldiko is free of charge. You can download the program from the Apple (Appstore) and Android (Google Play).

How to download a book onto your mobile device

  • In Helka click the word "Online resource".
  • Click "Download ebook".
  • Choose loan period (1-7 days).
  • Select Reader (Bluefire Reader).
  • Click ”Download” and wait until downloading is completed. Note - when using iPad and iPhone you'll need to click "For iPhone & ipad users click here to download".
  • After completed download you can save the book into your mobile device.

 

Printing

  • You may print 5-20 % pages/book.
  • Printing limits are mentioned in service.
  • If you want to print, you have to create a Dawsonera account.
  • You can't print from downloaded books.
