Library's support for APCs

The researchers of the Helsinki University have the possibility to publish their articles open access with university's support in the following ways

by publishing in scientific hybrid-style publications whose publisher has committed to promoting open access following Plan S (transformative journals) and has agreement with the library. See Library's journal subscription agreements or other agreements that include open access publishing
by publishing in Open Access journals. See criteria for applying library's APC Funding in 2024

by self-archiving e.g. in an institutional repository. See library's Deposit service

Criteria for applying library's APC Funding in 2024

The funding is primarily for researchers without research funding for open access publishing.

The funding is for A1 Journal article (refereed), original research. Funding doesn't cover submission or other editing fees. Funding is not available for C1 or C2 book processing charges (BPC). More information about the decision levels for the publications.

Criteria for the 2024 funding

The researcher/article author of the Helsinki University is the Corresponding author of the article and has a valid affiliation to University of Helsinki when submitting the article. The affiliation is checked from TUHAT database.
The journal is full Open Access and has JUFO Classification 1, 2 or 3
The article is submitted for publishing (submission date) between Jan 1, 2024 and Dec 31, 2024
Maximum funding for the article is 3500 €
The article is published under CC-BY licence. In some cases other licence can be accepted. Read more about from our License Guide.
Before 1.1.2021 granted Academy of Finland funding for a project/research includes costs for publishing. Therefore library's APC Funding is not available for researchers with this AoF funding.
Corresponding author can get APC funding for max. 6 APCs per calendar year

If the journal meets the requirements fill in the APC Fund Request: bit.ly/APCfund (log in with UH user account). Library checks the request during next working day and informs about the payment details of the APC.
